Compile-Render-Translate by Josh Parkins, video, 2008

What do we become when we record ourselves? How are we defined through a manipulated digital image. CRT is a first step in my exploration of digital sense of self and the ramifications it has for a culture that is increasingly encountering the world through a filter of pixels. The video is a three act narrative where we are confronted by a face captured by a webcam; we can only watch as this figure is distorted and transformed through video manipulation and collage. Instead of a decay of the form, however, there is an acceptance of the digital filter and the opportunities it offers.
