Alive Life by Rui Filipe Antunes, web art, 2008

The pixels from the digital representation of Da Vinci's famous drawing -an image which depicts the ideal proportions of the human (male) body-- become alive, mimicking the behavior of skin cells. The squamous epithelium is the specific type of epithelial tissue that covers the surface of the skin. Depending on their colour intensity, pixels are considered to be 'living' agents--thus having implemented the behavior of these cells--, or they simply serve as their nutrients. From this simple set of rules, and the agent's autonomous iterations, new visual representations of the famous image occurs.
